High School Art Class recently finished their Elements of Art projects! Students explored the seven elements (line, shape, color, form and value) where they picked one cohesive image that was divided into seven sections to illustrate the seven elements. Students now understand that the elements of art are the basic components that artists use to create visual compositions. Now our high school students understand how to analyze and appreciate art by identifying and describing how artists use these elements to express themselves through different techniques and stylization. Here's just a few of the students' projects. So beautiful and interesting to look at!

Painting pumpkins with Mrs. Pelletier! 🎃
Go MAD, or "Go Make a Difference," is an annual event at Northwood University that encourages students, staff, and faculty to volunteer in the Midland community. This year, our 5th graders got a chance to visit the University and try out a lot of different sports! While the students I interviewed were mostly raving about the super cool cafeteria, they also said all the volunteers at the University were really nice and they learned a lot about "Putting First Things First" and working together. They also got to meet the mascot and snapped a cool pic!

Some pics of the Kindergarten trip to Chippewa Nature Center a few weeks ago!
Miss Dittenber and Ms. Cederstrom’s classes got to wear the school rubber boots for their recent rainy trip to the Chippewa Nature Center. These were purchased through a grant specific to our Ag K-7 program, received several years ago. We were able to purchase enough boots for all K, 1st and 2nd graders to use on these trips and when they are working in the land lab, greenhouse or barn. Perfect for the rainy weather! ☔
Ms. Dittenber's 2nd graders enjoyed some mini pumpkin art! Great job, Comets! 🎃
CES celebrated Veteran's day on Monday with a special performance for local Veterans, and they did an amazing job. Thanks to our elementary Comets and Mrs. Tallman for all your hard work, and of course, thank you to Veterans for your service to our country! ⭐ For more pictures of the event, check out our news article here: https://www.colemanschools.net/article/1875808
With the generous help of several Corteva volunteers, Ag 1 students were able to finish the hoophouse construction in our Land Lab. Plans for future use of the space will include growing early season strawberries and tomatoes. Students applied lots of math principles throughout the project and demonstrated a great deal of teamwork.
On Monday, the NHS group helped the VFW put up the flags for Veterans Day. After they installed the flags, the VFW members fed them a breakfast of pancakes, sausage and eggs. Then many of the men shared stories with us of their time in the military.
Next Thursday is Leadership Night! Don't miss this special event taking place at the elementary school next week featuring a FREE dinner provided by our Culinary students! See you there! #LEADLikeAComet

Through November 15, parents and guardians of children ages 0-10 across the state are invited to participate in an online survey. The Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP), which oversees the work of the MiFamily Engagement Centers Grant (Section 35i)—the initiative in Region 5 covering Arenac, Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Isabella, Midland, and Saginaw counties—has launched a statewide media campaign. This campaign aims to raise awareness among parents and guardians about best practices in literacy.
The first step of the campaign focuses on research. The data collected will be used to develop appropriate messaging for the campaign (launching this spring). There is also an opportunity for individuals to win a $25 gift card when completing the survey.
A direct link to the survey can be found here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScNBolW30o9Ljk1m9h2ArnTLNn5WoW61ITN1dR-1oGnXin2BA/viewform
MORE Halloween pics? We just keep finding them! Looks like Kindergarten had a fun party!
Recently, the Culinary students participated in a "boot camp" to learn about how Prostart and SkillsUSA run in a competition form, and what different types of stations could be encountered. They had six stations in total with them being Management, knife skills, cake decorating, plate setting, sauces, and cooler setup. They all went through every station within 45 minute intervals to represent the school and their abilities. Most of them were group-based to help them coordinate the station to accomplish their goals within each station. How cool! https://www.colemanschools.net/page/culinary-arts-program
Mr. Taylor Jardas was one of our super cool WatchD.O.G.S. recently! Here he is with his son Jaxon and Mr. Boom's 4th grade class during gym time and his daughter Avery. Thank you Mr. Jardas for spending the day with us!
Kindergarten had a bunch of different fall-themed areas to discover: Exploring pumpkins, measuring pumpkins, pumpkin creations with apple stamps, and hammering tees into pumpkins. 🎃
The Ag Program recently got a nice shout-out from a Midland High student's parent!
"Hi, Just wanted to say thank you for supporting the Ag program! My daughter attended the national FFA convention last week and got to meet with all 3 colleges she was considering for Ag Business. It is VERY cool that she can attend her home school - Midland High- and still do the things she is interested in with the Ag program. Your Ag teachers are amazing and really great at what they do. Thanks!!"
This unique program is open to all Midland County 10th - 12th graders, including homeschool students! https://www.colemanschools.net/page/agriscience
