The Merrill Vandals swung by for a boy's basketball game last night. Fortunately, the Comets were ready. The JV game was competitive throughout, but Merrill hit a hot streak at the end and pulled away for the victory. The varsity game saw the Comets start out with a 20-5 first-quarter advantage en route to a 66-32 victory. They were led in the game by Jared DeVrieze's 28 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists with a blistering 73% FG percentage. Logan Glazier added 27 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 assists with Logan Dudley adding 5 boards, 5 assists, and 2 steals on the night. They are back in action on Monday at home against Vestaburg with 5:30 and 7:00 start times followed by a girls and boys varsity doubleheader at home on Tuesday.

Our Coleman athletes had a busy week. The wrestling team beat Farwell in the district semifinals but lost in the finals to Montabella who had beaten Beaverton. It was a great restart for the program. They are competing on their own for the first time in years. Dakota Lattimer, Donovan Potter, and Saphira Vermilyea were undefeated for the meet. They wrestle in the individual district meet this weekend. The boys are in Holton on Saturday and the girls are in Gaylord on Sunday.

Sean Long was a WatchDOG for us again! Here is Mr. Long working with Liam and Hudson from Ms. Dittenber's class.

On Friday the 6th grade took some time to appreciate National Hot Chocolate Day. Students researched the origin of the yummy winter beverage. Learned the steps in making chocolate, beginning with where cacao trees grow and the type of climate they need. Students then put their new ratio, rates, and unit rates skills to work to figure the cost of making hot chocolate for 1, 12, and their entire class. After all that work they were pretty tired, so they enjoyed a hot chocolate bar to perk themselves up!

Due to illness on our JV girl's team, we are canceling the JV game for tonight. The varsity game is still on for tonight at 7:00 against Beal City.

Boys Basketball hosted the Huskies from Breckenridge last night. The JV team battled arguably the best JV team in the league and came up a little short, but they were competitive throughout. The varsity boys battled to overtime, eventually winning on a Logan Dudley buzzer-beating layup 49-47. These were the only two points scored in the overtime session. The Comets were led by Logan Glazier's 14 points and 5 rebounds and Jared DeVrieze's 12 points and 5 assists. Robert Harsh was the Mayor of the Glass on the night with 10 rebounds.

Congratulations to Alison Young! She won a $500 gift credit to the First Book Marketplace, supported by Pizza Hut®. She says, "I wrote an essay about the importance of getting books into kids' hands, especially in a low income area, and the impact having a variety of books has on our at risk/special education kiddos. I am so excited! $500 was the grand prize!" We can't wait to see what new books she gets on her shelves!
