Coleman Schools adopted the evidence-based Leader in Me/7 Habits framework 7 years ago to help empower students, educators, and families with essential leadership and life skills, preparing them to excel . . and we're loving it! Our students have plenty of leadership opportunities to choose from and participate in community service projects regularly. Not convinced yet? Check out our enrollment page for more data on our small but mighty school district! https://www.colemanschools.net/o/coleman-cs/page/enrollment PS: Coleman Schools is the only Leader in Me school within 45 minutes of here! The boy's basketball teams battled Midland Calvary Baptist last night. The JV team played hard but ended up 5 points short in the contest. The varsity team trailed by 2 at the end of the 3rd quarter but rode a 17-4 advantage down the stretch to win 54-43. The boys were led by Logan Glazier's 17 points and 6 rebounds and Robert Harsh's double-double with 10 points and 11 boards. Aden Aultman added 9 on 75% shooting from the FT line and Jared DeVrieze added 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Both boys teams travel to St. Charles on Thursday.

Welcome to the following people who have recently joined the Comet Family: Ms. Holly Wentworth, Ms. McKenna Lee, Ms. Liberty Rocheleau, and Mr. Lorenz Nelson! Please help them all feel welcome!
Ms. Holly Wentworth recently graduated and already knows many of our students. She is now teaching English at the Jr/Sr High for courses she previously taught with Mr. Alex Fox. Mr. Alex Fox is now teaching Social Studies, taking over Mrs. Torreano's courses. Mr. Fox will remain in his own room and Ms. Wentworth will be in Mrs. Torreano's former room. Ms. Wentworth has built relationships with many of our students, knows and provides strong instruction in the high school English standards. She has a great love for teaching and has shared with us even before the position became available that she wanted to remain in Coleman. We are excited to continue to have her with us and know that Mr. A. Fox will do a fantastic job with Social Studies as he has in the past.
Ms. McKenna Lee is joining us as a paraprofessional at the elementary. We're happy to have her with us connecting with students and offering them her patience. Her strengths are also in building relationships with her colleagues and her solid work ethic.
Ms. Liberty Rocheleau has been hired to teach 2nd grade in Ms. Cederstrom's former classroom. Ms. Rocheleau moved to the area over the past couple of months and has already taught in a special education ASD classroom and has a K-6 elementary education degree. She has already been subbing in multiple classes at our elementary school and her demeanor is all about building a positive culture in her classroom. She also focuses on small group instruction and ensuring differentiation for every student.
Mr. Lorenz Nelson will be joining us as the 8th Grade Boys' Basketball Coach. Coach Nelson is currently a student at CMU and has a great deal of personal background in basketball, is focused on building great people and fundamental skills in the team.

Our bowling teams traveled to Sheridan to compete on Saturday. The girls team was undefeated on the day. The boys had a great day as well. They won their first match since the 2021-2022 season beating a St. Charles team 26-4. This is the first conference loss for the Bulldogs since 2020! It was a successful day for both teams.

Coleman's wrestling team headed to Flint for the Legends Wrestling Tournament and had a great showing. Our team ended up 8th out of the 19 teams competing. Individually, we had a number of medalists. Will Coe and Jair Martinez ended up 4th with Adam Muddimen 2nd. Dakota Lattimer ended up first in his weight class among all of the other competitors. They had a great showing for our Comet Community!

Tonight we honored Deputy Hodges for his years of service to Coleman Schools and the community. He has been a tremendous asset to us, and in his time here brought joy to many people. He and his friendly face will be greatly missed around here as he enjoys his much deserved retirement. Best of luck to you, Brandan, and a big welcome to Deputy Wakeman as he joins the Comet family!

Don't miss this! Come appreciate Deputy Hodges with us tonight at halftime. Varsity game to follow the JV game, which starts at 5:30. See you there! 🏀🏀🏀

Julia Weglowska, our foreign exchange student from Poland, wanted to express her gratitude to the Coleman community via Holiday Cheer.
Julia has a passion for volunteerism and wanted a way for the Jr/Sr High School students to connect with the elderly. Julia had the idea for the Jr/Sr High School students to create Holiday Cards for the residents at Coleman Fields Assisted Living & Memory Care and for those who visit the Coleman Senior Activity & Dining Center. She wrote and was awarded the Youth Philanthropy Grant from the Midland Area Youth Action Council (MAYAC) to purchase the required supplies. Julia then presented her project to the teachers at the Jr/Sr High School. The teachers loved her idea!
With the help of Reach Out (a student-led volunteer club at the Jr/Sr High), Julia set up a crafting booth during lunch periods. Students in grades 7th-12th helped create the holiday cards over the course of three days (December 17-19).
Julia, then, delivered the cards herself on Friday, December 20, and connected with residents by sharing stories. In her own words, "The joy on their faces when I told them about the project was indescribable."
NOTE: ANY Coleman Community Schools student can complete the Youth Philanthropy Grant from the Midland Area Youth Action Council (MAYAC). Mrs. Hamina, Student Support Specialist, at rhamina@colemanschools.net is more than willing to help write an application!

Just before break, Ms. Dittenber's 2nd graders made models of Native American houses, wrote an essay on them, and then presented them. Here are the final results!

The wrestling team started their conference season off last night with a 2-0 start beating Breckenridge 42-0 and Carson City - Crystal 28-18. Konar Curtis, Dakota Lattimer, Alex Lyon, Jair Martinez, and Aiden Rooks all went undefeated on the night while Adam Muddimen and Sam D'Artagnan both went 1-1.

A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Chris Blake and Mr. Joe Grabowski who will end their time serving on the Board of Education with the upcoming January Board Meeting.
Mrs. Blake, Board Treasurer, has given her time, thoughtfulness, energy and care for our students, staff and community since 2012 to attend events, provide feedback, ask the hard questions, respond to community members' questions, and serve on multiple sub-committees such as Human Resources, Finance, Board Goal and Negotiations. She assisted in passing a bond for updates to the Elementary School in 2015 and supported in many ways, the bond proposals for the Jr/Sr High, ultimately resulting in the passed proposal this November which will start reconfigurations & renovations in the Summer of 2026. Her 12 years on the Board have been crucial to improvements for our students and their families and she will be greatly missed.
Mr. Grabowski, Board Trustee, has served for the past year and a half to complete a term previously vacated. He has served on the Policy and Board Goal sub-committees, bringing to them a historical knowledge of the District, an interest in student careers and connections to the more seniored community members. He also gave of his time to support the November 2024 bond proposal, leading to passage of the proposal for the Jr/Sr High renovations.
Again, a tremendous thank you to both of them for all the support they have shown to our students and service they have given to their community. We wish you all the best!

After the first day of tryouts for JH basketball, we will have room for about 5 additional 6th-grade boys for the 7th-grade team. Tryouts will continue Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:15-5:15 at the Greater Midland Family Center. Physicals dated after 4/15/24 are a requirement and can be completed at the Health Center if parents call and make an appointment for their student or with another medical professional.
