A big welcome to one of our newest additions to the Comet family, Mr. Joshua Sampson! I enjoyed the opportunity to sit down and get to know him a bit better. Here's what I learned about our newest Jr/Sr High teacher:
Why did you choose to become a teacher?
Prior to pursuing teaching, I was a journalist. They threw me in a composition course as a teacher’s assistant when was in for my Master's - it was terrifying! But once I got used to it, I realized that they were more afraid than I was. I love teaching the way I always wanted to be taught - busy and moving along so students aren’t staring at the clock. I found I have a great passion for the material, and I really love interacting with students. I’m very much an advocate for peoples' passions for reading and writing.
What drew you to this opportunity?
I grew up in Auburn, so I’m used to being in a small community like Coleman. I have fond memories of what that was like; the smaller class sizes and the small-town vibe. I love getting to know the students on a more personal level.
What’s something you’re learning about right now?
I'm always working on building a better work-life balance! I want to be both very present with my family but throw myself into my job, as well.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Read and write of course, but I also love to play music with my friend. We play at venues every so often.
What adjectives would you use to describe yourself?
Thoughtful, humorous, eccentric
What’s your secret talent?
I play guitar!
