A big welcome to one of our newest additions to the Comet family, Mrs. Katie Lampman!
Why did you decide to become a paraprofessional?
Both of my grandmothers, both of my parents, two of my siblings, and my one sister in law were all part of the school system. I would arguably say education is in my blood. I am a mother of two that attend this school district and I am EXTREMELY impressed with how they have succeeded here. With the lineage of education and my impression of this school district, I was brave enough to apply. I have a medical background of 10+ years so this was quite the switch. I enjoy going to work and supporting the students.
Do you have any prior connection with this school district or community?
My family does not have any connection to Coleman whatsoever. When my husband and I were looking to purchase our first house, we looked at a map to find a central location between Midland, Mt. Pleasant, Clare, and Gladwin due to job opportunities and family ties. We landed on Coleman, which has been such a blessing.
What drew you to this opportunity?
My own children have faced many struggles with their short educational journeys so far. I don't have a vast toolbox to best help them. What better way is there to gain experience/tools than to immerse myself in the environment with many kids who teach adults things everyday? My dad, a special education teacher of 30 years, said to me "I may be the teacher and expert of a certain subject, however the blessing of teaching is that I learn something from the kids everyday." There are no truer words in my opinion.
What was your first impression of the district?
I am impressed daily by the school district. There are many opportunities that I have never heard of being offered. From what I have seen, if there is a need everyone works as a team to get to a solution. It is a good work environment and everyone tries their hardest to help the students.
What do you like to do in your free time?
My hobbies include embroidery, painting, reading, hunting, and snuggling with my kiddos and kitties. I love to go adventuring and always get excited when I spot cows! Even my kids and husband point them out if I do not see them immediately. I love thrift shopping and yard saling. Spending time with family and friends is one of my favorite things as well.
What adjectives would you use to describe yourself?
I would say the main word would be contradictory in the definition of the word: "someone who exhibits opposing or conflicting qualities or behaviors, showcasing a mix of seemingly contradictory traits." Most days I am upbeat, vibrant, intelligent, amicable, open-minded, compassionate, and easy-going. Somedays I am the complete opposite for a number of reasons. I am wonderfully human in the best of ways.
What's your secret talent, or something people don’t know about you?
I enjoy learning weird and random facts about pretty much anything and everything. You want to know facts about a koala, I have them. Are you interested in learning about the Dead Man Walking Tornado? I have facts about that. Do you want to learn some random history facts? I have those too. I love to read and watch videos where I can soak up information like a sponge.
