deputy wakeman

A big welcome to one of our newest additions to the Comet family, Deputy Chas Wakeman!

I asked him a few interview questions so we could get to know him better.

Why did you decide to become an SRO?

I specifically applied for the SRO program because I love working with the community and youth. I thought this was a great opportunity to become a good mentor and role model for students.

What drew you to this opportunity?

With Deputy Hodges retiring, Coleman’s SRO position opened up, so I got placed here! I enjoy the feeling of working in a smaller town so I'm definitely happy with this placement.

What’s something you’re learning about right now?

Being an SRO is all completely new to me - it’s a bit of trial and error. Everyone has been really accommodating while I learn the differences between working on the “road” and in a school district. I’m also learning about wedding planning for my wedding coming up in July!

What do you like to do in your free time?

Fishing, lifting weights, working out, soccer, basketball, and spending time with my dogs - a Labradoodle named Mack (named after the Mackinaw Bridge) and a Pitbull named Kayzu (named after Kalamazoo).

What adjectives would you use to describe yourself?

 Confident, kind, approachable, considerate

What’s your secret talent?

I enjoy cooking! Grilled chicken wings and chicken fried rice are my specialties. I can also make a mean breakfast burrito.

✨ Welcome, Deputy Wakeman! ✨
